Title & Registration Services
Vehicle title transfer & registration in Austin TX & Travis County
Let us help you get your vehicle title & registration complete. All services must be handled in person at our walk-in location. You will receive your registration sticker and license plates immediately after all requirements are met and applicable fees are paid. Your new title will arrive by mail in the following weeks.
Note: You have 30 days to complete title transfer after the date of sale (as written on the title at time of sale) before late fees apply.
> YOU WILL RECEIVE
With your title transfer:

Texas Title
Your new Texas title will arrive by mail from TxDMV in about 4 to 6 weeks after title transfer is complete. You will receive a receipt which can be used as proof of title transfer until your title arrives.
With your registration:

License plates
You will receive two (front and rear) license plates immediately. -
Window sticker
You will receive a window sticker immediately.
Vehicle Title & Registration Services

For title and registration you must provide:

Vehicle Inspection
Proof of passing emissions inspection. Must be within 90 days if vehicle is not currently registered. Find an Inspection Station -
Insurance
Proof of liability insurance that meets Texas liability standards. Individual applying for title transfer must be listed on policy. Digital proof is acceptable. More information -
Form 130-U
Completed Application for Texas Title and/or Registration - Link - a signature is not required by the seller unless seller is a dealer. -
Title
Original title properly signed by the buyer and seller. You will surrender your original title. -
ID
Valid US Government-issued photo ID or Passport.
Title Transfer Only
You may transfer a title without registration. For a title transfer only you must provide:

All stated fees are estimates. There are many variables and special circumstances which can affect the final cost.

Sales tax - TBD
The tax amount will be 6.25% of the sale price OR the state-assessed value, whichever is higher. -
Registration fee - $80

Convenience fee - $30
Title and registration - $150* before taxes
Title transfer only - $55*
* Fees are exactly the same as you would pay at Travis County Tax Office / TxDMV with the exception of our convenience fee. Stated fees are estimates only and do not include any applicable late fees or credit/debit card transaction fees. Exact costs will be determined at time of transaction.
> NOTICES
We are able to provide title and registration services for cars, trucks, RV’s, motorcycles, etc. Watercraft must be registered with Texas Parks & Wildlife.
Centex Auto Title is a privately owned, for-profit business licensed to provide services on behalf of Travis County and TxDMV. If you prefer not to pay convenience fees you may complete all services we provide at the Travis County Tax Office.
